Common Name/Other Name:

EBOV; Ebola hemorrhagic fever

Ebola is an acute and serious disease caused by Ebola virus. It may become fatal if left untreated. It is transmitted via body fluids, blood, stool and vomit through direct contact if infected fluids get into your mouth, nose, eyes, genitals, or an open cut or wound. The virus can also be carried by tears, sweat, urine, and breast milk or items with fluids on them like sheets or needles. Ebola is only contagious after the infected person begins exhibiting symptoms. It is not airborne and is not carried by mosquitoes. It is also not spread by food or water unless you share it with the infected persons' since their saliva might transfer to your mouth.

Ebola has no medicine of vaccine to treat or prevent it yet. Instead, the treatment plan is geared towards treating the person's symptoms. The sooner they get medical care, the better their chances are of recovery.
