Diarrhea Prevention

  • Drink clean or purified water.
  • Maintain proper hand-washing habits and use proper food-handling techniques.
  • Avoid contaminated food, utensils, or other objects. Food should be cooked properly.
  • Refrain from unnecessary use of antimicrobial drugs. It destroys the normal flora of the gastro-intestinal thus removing its natural protection against simple infection.
  • Take proper amount of vitamins (e.g., vitamin A) and minerals such as zinc. Babies should be breastfed to strengthen their immunity. Breast milk contains colostrums and it does not contain allergic substances harmful to babies.
  • Avoid eating in places with questionable sanitation.
  • Throw away bulging lids, and leaking canned goods.
  • Handle food properly.
