At-Home Workouts to Do With Your Partner

By: Luisa MamaradloAt-Home Workouts to Do With Your Partner

Don’t feel like working out? Maybe having a partner, romantically involved or not, will motivate you. Fitness experts suggest that working out with a partner will likely inspire you to get going to the gym and get moving.

For one, there is a lesser chance of you bailing out. Your fitness buddy will be your reminder why you planned to work out in the first place. Another advantage of having a partner is that exercises can be more fun. There may be routines or equipment in the gym that you’re either averse to or are not familiar with but your partner might be into. In this case, you can exchange thoughts and ideas with them to learn more about an exercise or routine which both of you might enjoy.

Furthermore, studies show that working out with a partner will increase happiness level in a relationship and boost your emotional bond.

“Exercise is a perfect example of the type of invigorating activity that can have these positive effects. It is the physiological arousal, rather than the novelty or challenge of the activity, that drives romantic attraction,” according to a study by Lewandowski & Aron.

Coordinated actions through workout routines are also deemed beneficial since it promotes a connection between both partners, which benefits their health. “Nonverbal mimicry helps people feel emotionally attuned with one another, and those who experience or engage in it tend to report greater feelings of having ‘bonded’ with their partner,” a 2010 research by Stel & Vonk revealed.

Therefore, we have listed four different forms of exercise which you can do with your partner at the comforts of your own home:

The most basic will probably through cardiovascular exercises such as jogging and running. Efficient, effective, and more importantly – free. These exercises are dubbed as the “mother of exercises” since most workout routines incorporate any of these as your cardio exercise.

Look around your neighborhood or go to a nearby park where you, your fitness buddy, and maybe your pet dog too can enjoy a good 30-minute jog or run.

Another easy and accessible exercise is cycling. Reportedly one of the best cardio activities offered in gyms today, you can do this workout either with your good old bicycle or a station cycle. It burns calories, helps you lose weight, and builds muscles depending on the intensity. Moreover, this option also provides you with a mode of transportation to avoid the massive traffic in the metro, especially during the work week.

Yoga is also a good do-it-yourself exercise that can be done at home. In terms of accessibility, beginners will only need a nice yoga mat where you can practice your poses and stretches, which are very much available in mobile apps or you can stream videos online.

Veronica Parker, a Kundalini yoga teacher and meditation coach, explained that to get started with yoga, you must be gentle with yourself and learn to listen to your body. “It's a practice, so it builds upon itself. Your mind and your body are united as you flow through the poses. Connect with your breath and experience the incredible realm of yoga, flow, and connection,” she said.

On the other hand, if you are looking for something intense and powerful then you may opt to do CrossFit. It consists of high intensity and constantly-varied workouts and has gained popularity because of its simplicity and value for time.

A typical CrossFit routine is composed of a complete a warm up like an 800m run, ?ve minutes on a stationary bike, a couple rounds of jumping jacks, air squats and lunges, or a 500-meter row. This is followed by static and dynamic stretching, focusing on the muscles you’ll be using in that workout, and ?nished with a long stretch and foam rolling. CrossFit workouts are short but what they lack in total time is made up for in intensity. Therefore, it is important to focus on a good form and lose the weight especially if you are struggling in completing the prescribed number of reps.

Being fit and healthy has become a trend that such lifestyle has been made accessible. Diets and exercises are available either for free or by subscription through various platforms – mobile apps, social media, and streaming websites like YouTube.

Give yourself and your relationship a new direction and promote love in a better and healthier manner through exercise.
