Doctor, Doctor, My Feet Stink

"When smelly feet should be brought to the doctor"
By: Vanessa ValenzuelaDoctor, Doctor, My Feet Stink

Normally, having foot odor isn’t something you bring to a doctor, but if the symptoms don’t clear up despite all the different remedies you tried, it can be a sign of an underlying medical condition. You need to go see a doctor for a checkup.

After evaluating you, your doctor can prescribe you with a suitable antiperspirant, botox, anticholinergic, and the like, or recommend you with iontophoresis—a treatment that involves the use of mild electric current on water while your feet are in it—to address excessive sweating. Iontophoresis is reportedly effective in some cases.

He can also check for fungal infection. Fungal infections, like athlete’s foot, can cause your feet to produce flaky skin—the type that bacteria go crazy on, whenever they get a chance. If you have fungal infection, your doctor can recommend antifungal creams, ointments, or oral meds that can stop the flaking and the foot odor that comes with it.

If you’re unsure what causes your feet to smell funny, see a doctor right away. You may be a bit embarrassed to tell him your problem now, but it will save you a lot of “kill-me-now” moments with your peers later on!
